SEPI provided construction inspection of a new eight-lane section of I-485 from west of NC 115 (Old Statesville Road) to the east of I-85. This 5.7-mile section links I-77 to I-85, relieving congestion on neighboring surface streets and completes the entire 67-mile I-485 Outer Loop, an important corridor for local and regional travel.
A split-diamond interchange was constructed at Prosperity Church Road, which allows traffic to exit I-485 onto a one-way service road connected to three separate streets through a series of roundabouts. The construction of a diverging diamond interchange at Mallard Creek Road was also required to tie-into existing interstate facilities.
SEPI was responsible for performing inspection services on the construction of Portland cement concrete pavement, MSE walls, culverts, noise walls, drilled piers, monitored permitted sites, sedimentation and erosion control devices, and utility relocation. Services included QA/QC oversight, construction materials testing, project documentation control, contract administration, project claims avoidance, and project closeout.
