SEPI is preparing preliminary plans, right-of-way plans, and construction plans for approximately 0.4-miles of urban widening along NC Highway 115 and 0.25-miles of two-lane roadway on a new alignment in Cornelius, NC.
The asymmetrical widening improvement consists of a two-lane to a three-lane section. There are numerous overhead and underground utilities within the project limits including natural gas. Design plans also include signal design, drainage design, erosion control, pavement-marking plan, and traffic control plans.
The Hickory Street Extension is being designed approximately 500-LF from the intersection of Zion Avenue and Hickory Street to the intersection of Lovers Lawn Trace and Heights Way. This design includes a plan for a traffic signal at NC Highway 115 and Hickory Street that will include railroad coordination for the new signal and new pedestrian heads with black powder coated mast arms for the signals. NC Highway 115 is to be widened to provide northbound and southbound turn-lanes.
The Gem Street Extension is being designed approximately 550-LF from the intersection of Oak Street and Aftonshire Court to the current dead end of Gem Street just after the intersection of Gem Street and Kelly Street. SEPI is providing surveying, roadway design, natural resource investigations, storm drainage design, traffic control design, signing and pavement marking design, construction cost estimating and right-of-way plats. Coordination with agencies include the Town of Cornelius, NCDOT, Mecklenburg County Stormwater Services along with coordination with property owners and developers.
