SEPI is working with the NCDOT and the Town of Carrboro to improve the current signalized intersection of Estes Drive Extension and Greensboro Street in Carrboro.

SEPI’s traffic forecast, capacity analysis, planning, and roadway designs concluded that a roundabout would function best over time to address current and future vehicle and truck traffic. The proposed roundabout will also reduce approach speeds to improve safety for the substantial number of pedestrians and bicyclists in the area that use the adjacent sidewalks and on-street bike lanes as well as access to the Frances Lloyd Shetley Bikeway, which terminates at the intersection.

SEPI is also providing NEPA clearance including CCR/CIA reports, public involvement, natural resource studies, environmental permitting, and final construction plans to address bike/pedestrian uses for the U-5846 project as well as developing a roundabout design that accommodates high traffic volumes.
