SEPI developed two roadway design alternatives for this approximately 2.3-mile segment of Allen Road from Stantonsburg Road to Dickinson Avenue Extension.
The project consists of the conversion of an existing three-lane shoulder section to a four-lane divided facility with raised grass median, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and bike lanes. The project includes an at-grade railroad crossing and three reinforced box culvert designs, one with FEMA involvement along Green Mill Run.
The project was designed and approved in accordance with Statewide Buffer Rules within the Tar-Pamlico River Basin. SEPI is responsible for roadway design; hydraulic design; erosion control; stream, wetland, and buffer permitting; and traffic management plans.
Roadway drainage was completed using Geopak Drainage Software, and in accordance with the 2016 NCDOT Guidelines for Drainage Studies and Hydraulic Design, and the 2014 NCDOT Pre-Construction Stormwater Program Manual.
